A woman wearing a large backpack stands on a white rock layer in Canyonlands National Park

An avid outdoorsperson, Laura is passionate about sharing her joy in the outdoors by helping make them more accessible for others. A long-time backpacker, it wasn’t until participating with a local club’s mountaineering and backcountry ski classes as both a student and an instructor that she became more keenly aware of the challenges posed by pooping outdoors in pristine locations. A backpacking trip to Canyonlands National Park in Utah in 2019 provided the impetus to finally solve this problem.

Due to slow desert decomposition speeds and high visitation, parts of the park have a requirement to pack out solid human waste; and Laura would be backpacking with her mom and sister, who had never blue bagged before. Trip planning responsibilities were divvied up, and Laura volunteered to own the poo solution. She wanted to make the experience as convenient as possible for her family so they could focus on the natural beauty without detractors. After much research and thought, she came up with the first prototype for the go2™ and it was a huge success. She and her sister brainstormed the name on a subsequent day hike to Island in the Sky… and the rest is history!
